The Way We Were is a very sad, nostalgic song. And a nostalgic place for me was where I came to when I first set foot in the UK, when I studied at United World College of the Atlantic. Located at the incredible St Donat’s Castle on the coastal cliffs of Wales, it was where my musical excursions really started. Immersed in an environment of cross cultural and international understanding, I got to collaborate with people from different parts of the world. Put a bunch of 17-ish year olds in the middle of nowhere and see what happens! I was very lucky to get a full scholarship to study here and, sitting on the cliffs, I dreamt of making a music video and show the whole world this wonderful place. So when I came back for the reunion, many years later, it was so good to see all my friends who made our time there so special and unique and made them a part of this project. I was also grateful to Charlotte Johnson (Decibel Pictures) who battled the weekend traffic to film here! It’s the kind of place which all former students muse fondly about and we use every excuse to catch up with the UWC community. Hence my homage to the place that changed my life. Hope you enjoy.
For those of you who have been personally touched by the UWC experience, please remember to donate to keep this place alive!
Postscript: Education, people. Very important. Take it seriously – it’s one thing people cannot take away from you. The lessons you learn, the beliefs you build, the connections you make, will count.
