On a lovely and very windy Saturday, I was on Brighton beach with film director extraordinaire Charlotte Johnson (Decibel Pictures) to shoot a video for You Go To My Head. I got into the song after hearing Marlene Dietrich’s version. We decided to take a more 60s approach on the song and video. Being on a very windy set really went into my head.
I was lucky to have Hayley Berry on set for hairstyling duties as she managed to create some quite elaborate creations that combined 1940s, 50s and 60s influences AND stay intact yet remain yielding enough to look good in the wind. No easy feat!
Grips are our best friend.
So this is Hayley, master of wind-defying vintage hair. Your hair will stay put all day (and all night… into the next day. FACT!). She is very very lovely, efficient and professional. She’s based in Brighton but will travel for bookings. You can check out her website, The Beauty Artist. She is also a photographer – she took all the above photographs!
Getting ready…
The team – very lean and streamlined this time! 🙂 That’s Charlotte on the camera and Hayley in her fab red mac. Anthony, our runner for the day and a contact at the Brighton Film School who so kindly turned up at short notice, somehow is not in this shot.
I would like to say a special thank you to Charlotte who put me up for the weekend and is a star friend and collaborator. The way she films is truly stunning – she can make anything look good and it is evident that she genuinely cares for her craft. Living from a space of passion for music and film from deep within, she has made huge sacrifices and investment in her personal life to get to where she is today and produce supremely high quality work regardless of limitations. She will go very very far!
